Pour consolider la structure et la rendre résistante à l'effraction, la structure est renforcée à l'intérieur par une tôle de protection. Domes are commonly used in defence applications and often in extreme environments such as Submersible ROV’s. The shape of the window creates a naturally strong shape that gets tougher under pressure. Using a curved dome optical surface allows for an increased beam angle, therefore allowing a greater area to be lit from one light source. For visible applications, N-BK7 with its high optical quality and uniform transmission and low absorption in the visible spectrum makes it an ideal material for underwater lighting. For example, Germanium typically transmits at <45% but with an AR coating applied, it can improve transmission to >60%. CMOS sensors are used within commercial grade Digital SLR cameras as a replacement for the more expensive CCD. These CMOS sensors are extremely sensitive to IR light, which can lead to discolouration. IR cut filters are used to block the IR light, meaning that photographs are taken with life-like colours. Colour Glass Filters can be used in variations of Bandpass, Long pass and Short pass, depending on which wavelengths of light need to be blocked resulting in different key areas being more easily distinguished. Knight Optical offers Colour Glass and IR cut filters for such an application, with a wide range of band widths and cut on/off wavelengths. Equilateral dispersion prisms are commonly used for wavelength separations, i.e. refracting white light into a rainbow pattern effect. Depending on the material used equilateral dispersion prisms can be used over a wide range of wavelengths. We offer UV Fused silica prisms for use in the ultra-violet wavelength from 170nm and other high index materials which are used for visible applications. Antireflective coatings are applied to most of our high index grade of equilateral dispersion prisms as high index material is sceptical to staining and corrosion which anti-reflective coatings eliminate. Antireflective coatings also help to improve output of the light as they prevent light loss due to surface reflection. Homogenizing Rods are used within the application of surgical procedures; within systems designed to help identify which tissues have been exposed to the fluorescent indicator. The Light source will enter a light pipe at a variety of incident angles, which is designed to utilise its total internal reflection to channel the light from the entrance of the light pipe to the exit. The material’s refractive index is the only factor which affects the light pipes critical angle; this defines the angle of acceptance which the total internal reflection will occur at.
